What I loved this week
Because despite my complaining, there have been things that I've liked (a lot!) lately.
In this world of all the things, I’m trying to narrow down the ones that brought me joy, made me think, resonated or just what I liked this week. So here’s my list!
What I listened to- I’m still not on the audiobook side (yet) but I’m enjoying the podcast world. This week I was listening to the Ezra Klein Show talking about how to discover your own taste and how the digital media world changes culture. How social media influences style and taste and makes everything a lot more homogenized. This really struck a cord for me. I’m in the style and digital space and last year it really caused me to lose the joy in creating content and even in getting dressed. Nothing felt inspired. I questioned my own taste and style even though truth to be told I know what it is. I’ve known it for a long time and I feel confident in my choices because of how it makes me feel. So this was an inspiring listen.
“Style or taste is knowing who you are, and knowing what you like and then being able to look outside yourself, see the world around you and pick out the one thing that does resonate with you.”
What I watched- Jasmeet Raina aka JusReign’s new show, Late Bloomer, just released two new episodes on Crave so of course I binged them while ignoring the dishes. Let me tell you - so good. Like really. For me it’s mainstream Sikh representation that is actually reflective of so many of our experiences in the Ontario diaspora. Add in the world of content creators and how his character is experiencing things that are so relatable to me in my job. Plus it’s funny. Reminded me of the JusReign videos that my husband and I used to watch on our laptop. I’m glad to see him back on our screens.
What I read - I’m a Toronto Raptors fan. Yes I said it. So this week’s trade has had me in my feels. And then this article had me in my feels again - big time. Plus there’s something about someone else discovering their love for this city that always gets me. In the world of reading (I haven’t gotten back to my first love of books yet), I read this incredible article by Raji Kaur Aujla, “Who is worthy of a homeland?” Highly recommend it
What I wore - Maybe not really fashion per say, but more like a grown up find. I’ve never been the one to wear fancy pjs or a lovely robe. But I wanna pretend to be that person. So I’ve been wearing this beautiful silky robe from Shop the Lnk - which if you didn’t know, is a global marketplace with some cool finds. Shipping, customs and duty is included so no major surprises at the delivery. I’ll also admit I’m biased. This is the brain child and vision from a friend, and I’m here to support it. But for real real - it’s a great alternative to fast fashion and links you to cool brands and pieces. So we can get back to rediscovering our personal style again. I’ve got my picks from the site linked here.
What I bought - New product alert over here where I spent my own money (not gifted) and that I love love. It’s from Fenty Beauty (of course it is) and it’s the new Eaze Drop Stick Blur + Smooth Tint Stick Foundation (new to me anyways). Look, I can’t tell you much other than it’s easy for me to use, colour matches well and gives my skin a smoother look without feeling and looking like I’m wearing foundation. I want my skin to look like skin and not makeup. It’s just a product I’d tell my bestie that I liked. And I did. Tell her I mean.
